MercuryText is a program for sending free text messages from your PC and chat to your friends on GoogleTalk.

Only Irish mobile networks are available. O2, Vodafone and Meteor are all supported.

To log into MercuryText simply enter your mobile number and the password you use to log into your network's website. If this is the first time you have logged into MercuryText, then you will be asked if you want to create a MercuryText account. Click yes!

To chat on GoogleTalk with MercuryText, select the GoogleTalk tab on the main screen. This will bring you to the GoogleTalk login screen. Enter your GoogleTalk username (e.g. yourname@gmail.com) and password and click the login button. The contacts screen will appear after you have logged in. To send a message,double click on the contact in the contact list. The chat screen will appear. Type in your message and press Enter.

To send a text message select the SMS tab on the main screen. Then either select a contact from your phonebook, displayed in the list on the left hand side or, enter a mobile number in the text box below the message area. Type in your message in the message area and click the send button. The status bar on the button of the screen show you the progess of your message and will tell you how many free text messages you have left this month.

To send a text message to multiple users, hold down the ctrl key and select as many contacts from your phonebook on the left hand side of the screen as you want. Type in your message in the message area and click the send button.

Your MercuryText account password must be the same as the password you use to log into your network's website (in order to send text messages). To change MercuryText account password select the settings link on the top of the main screen. In the settings dialog, choose the account tab and click the Change password button.
